35 Years of Redbull Dolomitenmann
The Redbull Dolomitenmann is one of the most extreme team sporting events in the whole world. Teams of 4 race against each other competing in alpine sports, namely mountain-running, paragliding, mountain biking and kayaking. To honour its 35th anniversary I was asked to create a projection mapping performance. The event was held on the nights before and after the race on the main square of Lienz, Osttirol where the race is taking place in the surrounding alps.
Concept & Creation
The idea was to create an experience that shows the history of the racing event. I got access to the huge archive of photo and video footage that got made since the founding of the contest in 1988. With this material I created a 45-minute montage of the most memorable moments of this epic relay race. To add to the created montage, I produced thematically fitting 3D effects. The relay race is done by teams of four. A mountain runner, a paraglider, a mountain biker and a kayak rider. Some of the animations created show the building opening up and revealing flying sporting equipment used in the contest.
