Billie Thanner

This Artwork called “Mein Raum” was created in a collaboration with internationally renowned Artist Billie Thanner. One of Thanners most recent and famous Artworks “Himmelsleiter”, a ladder made of fluorescent neon tubes. The ladder decorated the main tower of the Stephansdom, one of Viennas most well-known landmarks. The ladder is now being moved across mayor European cities and put up on important churches and cathedrals.

The artwork “Mein Raum” is a mixed Media permanent Video Installation. It features an elevated square base made of wood. On top stands an angular neon tube sculpture in Thanners typical style. The base of the sculpture is lit by a projector positioned above.

Flowing liquid like movements inspired by the creation process of the artist contrast the rigid & right angles of the sculpture. The artwork features several nature scenes shot from above with a drone creating the illusion of watching a miniature world from above. The cold blue light of the fluorescent tubes and the projections synergize to create a cold yet calming atmosphere.

The room created by the outline of the structure is enhanced by the projected videos which support the tridimensionality of the proposed room as well as giving it a non-static element and dynamic movement.

Colors of all animations were matched to the color system of Athanasius Kircher who created a color theory system in the 17th century.
